Our mission is to advocate for those living with severe mental illness by working with families, law enforcement, the courts, lawmakers, County leaders, and mental health-serving community partners to promote comprehensive and humane treatment programs and environments leading to a successful reintegration into the community.

About Us

In January 2017, Andrew Holland, a man suffering from schizophrenia, died while in custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail after spending 46 hours strapped to a restraint chair. The investigation into and resulting lawsuit regarding Andrew’s death was the catalyst for the County of San Luis Obispo to enact many positive changes. The Andrew Holland Foundation provides advocacy by bringing attention to gaps in services, resulting in systems that better address the needs of Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
